Overdrive Québec

Our mod, our server

The Overdrive Québec mod and our American Truck Simulator server

Overdrive Québec is our own mod for American Truck Simulator, in modules the launcher installs and checks. Each truck only offers the engines it really had, from 400 to 600 hp, with real manual, automated and automatic transmissions for normal and heavy loads. The mod also applies real 2025-2026 prices, rebuilds the physics and puts more police on the road. Our 128-slot dedicated server runs it, at version 3.0.43.

Version by version

What does the Overdrive mod change?

The launcher installs the Overdrive Québec mod’s modules and checks each one’s SHA-256 checksum. Among other things, the mod changes the engines, the transmissions, the prices, the physics, the trains, traffic and the police: here are the details, then the history of its versions.

Catalogue of version 3.0.42

Engines: 113 real engines on 18 diesel trucks

Of the game’s 19 trucks, each of the 18 diesel trucks only offers the engines it really had, from 400 to 600 hp: 113 different engines, from 7 to 65 per truck, 505 in all at the dealer. What the workshop shows, power, torque and rpm range, is exactly what the engine does on the road.

The official engines, 8 families with Slav Jerry’s sounds, have their real factory ratings and calculated ratings up to 600 hp. A calculated rating keeps the torque per horsepower of the strongest real rating, or sits between two real ratings. The game’s other engines for sale keep their truck’s sound.

The official engines at the dealer

Nothing above 600 hp is for sale. No longer for sale, but kept on the trucks that have them: the stronger engines, the engines of the old sound mods (M11, N14 Celect Plus, Signature Gen II, ISX straight pipe) and the old “Tuned” ratings, which take the truck’s original sound. The N14, M11 and ISX under 500 hp stay for sale with the truck’s sound. Once replaced at the garage, a hidden engine cannot be bought back.

Prices start from the real 2025-2026 prices.

Engine sounds created by and belonging to Slav Jerry, used in Overdrive Québec on our server only with his permission (never sold, never re-uploaded on their own). Some original samples by SCS Software, as he credits. Thank you, Slav Jerry!

The engine settings (power, ratings, names) are our own.

His original sound mods, on the Steam Workshop:

Every contract pays a fixed part of $5,000, then the distance: long trips pay less than before. The exact case: level 36, every skill at maximum, company trailer, no urgent, valuable or fragile bonus, about $78,000 for 4,000 km. At 500 km the pay drops only a little (from $14,568 to $13,025); the longer the trip, the more it drops. Quick jobs pay 25% less, your own trailer 25% more, and heavy convoys 25% more, but they come up about three times less often. Bank loans last 8, 12, 16 or 20 weeks.

Like real glider kits, the W900, the 389, the 579, the Cascadia 2019 and the 9900i offer the Series 60, the C15 6NZ and the C15 ACERT; the W900 and the 389 also the Cummins NTC Big Cam IV. The X15 goes on the trucks that offer it, the D13 on the VNLs and the MP8 on the Anthem and the Pinnacle.

Transmissions: a real gearbox for every load

Every engine for sale has a manual and an automated gearbox for normal loads and for heavy loads, and an automatic for normal loads. They are real gearboxes, with their real ratios; when an engine is stronger than a real gearbox can take, it gets one of the 86 reinforced Overdrive Shop boxes.

The real gearboxes, by type and load
TypeNormal loadsHeavy loads

Automatic (AT)Allison TC10Allison 4000, Allison 4500, Allison 4700

No real automatic takes more than 1,850 lb-ft. The 149 stronger engines therefore get the Overdrive Shop’s reinforced automatic for normal loads, and no automatic for heavy loads. On the trucks that offer no heavy-duty Allison, 101 other engines have none either. The other 255 have a real Allison for heavy loads.

At the dealer

How to read the engine and gearbox names

At the dealer, a few letters at the end of the name tell what load the engine or gearbox is built for and what sets it apart.

Engines

N / H
N for normal loads; H for heavy loads (heavy duty). An engine of 14 litres or more is H, the others are N.
T1 / T2
One turbo or two, shown only when the same engine comes with both (the Cat C15 ACERT).
SP
The “straight pipe” sound.
+HP
Stronger than the engine’s strongest real rating.

Gearboxes

R
Retarder.
C
Crawler gear.
N / H
For normal or heavy loads, like the engines.
MAN
Manual.
AMT
Automated manual: it shifts by itself, with paddles on the wheel.
AT
Automatic, with a torque converter.

Since version 2.1

Physics: Overdrive versus the game

Version 2.1 rebuilt the trucks’ physics. The table compares its settings with the game’s. Version 2.3 adds the real air resistance of trains and about 25% less grip in the rain.

Physics settings, Overdrive and the game
SettingOverdriveGame
Rig air drag (trailers at 0.05)3.63.0
Rear and trailer damping0.60.5
Front anti-roll bar1.21.0
Braking curve1.251.5
Brake heating3.04.0
Maximum brake temperature260 °C200 °C
Cab mass900 kg650 kg
Cab travel0.060.05
Cab damping0.91.0
Transmission losses1.041.0
Wheel losses1.021.0

The brakes heat at the pace of real drum brakes, a little slower than the base game, but their temperature can climb much higher, up to the ceiling in the table: the temperature at which real drum brakes fail. On long downgrades, without the engine brake, keep an eye on them.

The Ford F-150 weighs 2,200 kg instead of 3,762 kg since 2.1, and brakes about 1.7 times harder since 2.2.

On the road

Traffic and police

AI drivers are more careful and more patient, and traffic has its rush hours, from 7 to 9 a.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m. In a convoy, AI cars spawn at least 400 m from the players: fewer ghost cars.

Police are about 4 times more present on the highway, with up to 3 cars, and about 3 times more in town, with up to 4 cars.

On our server, collisions between players stay on in company yards and at service areas: park there as you would on the road.

In the launcher

The launcher’s driving presets

Arcade, Normal, Semi-realistic and Realistic: 26 settings, with ABS and traction control always on. In Realistic, stability goes to 0, air brakes are simulated and nothing is automated.

To drive with us

The server’s mods: all required

Required on the server

  • Overdrive Québec · installed and checked by the launcherin 8 modules, top to bottom: Météo, Camions, Physique, Économie, Remorques, Remorques (modèles 3D), Base, Communauté
  • Ultimate Graphics Mod ATS · about 27 GB

Only one mod comes from the Workshop: the Ultimate Graphics Mod, required on the server like the Overdrive modules. Slav Jerry’s engine sounds are included in the Overdrive mod, with his permission. Subscribe to its Workshop page yourself, in Steam. The launcher does not install it.

In the mod manager, put the Overdrive Québec modules at the very top, in the order of the list: Météo first, above the Ultimate Graphics Mod (the day-night sky is in Météo). The old sound mods (Teax’s collection, the M11 mod, Slav Jerry’s 8 sound mods) and the server’s old collection are no longer needed: unsubscribe from them. In a convoy, the game itself offers the session’s mods in the right order. The old “Overdrive Québec (ancien fichier, vide)” file can be turned off, and the launcher checks the order after your session.

No other mod is allowed on the server. If the game shows “Absent on server” next to one of your mods, click “Activate Session MODs”: the game replaces your mods with the server’s. You turn your own back on afterwards, in the mod manager.

Credits: the Overdrive mod’s engine sounds are the work of Slav Jerry, used with his permission. Thank you!
